Tower Crane Parts
Some of the most remarkable structures around the globe are made with cranes. The newer cranes are designed to be able to reach higher heights. Tower cranes offer the means to raise and move building parts, materials and tools around a construction location. There are various components that assemble a tower crane once they are put together. Putting a tower crane together uses various pieces of construction equipment.

Normally, the tower crane base is made from a steel unit. The base is connected to a custom-designed concrete pad. This kind of set-up gives the structure stability. Overall, the construction has to be engineered and built well so as to operate at optimum safety.

The mast on the tower crane provides the machine with its overall height. The mast is constructed out of individual steel sections which are connected together. The amount of parts determines the crane's height. Usually, a tower crane has a design that allows the mast to grow during construction by adding further sections as the building process continues. This way the height of the crane could be specified, making certain that it has enough height to carry out the required work safely and efficiently.

Slewing Unit/Top Climber
A slewing unit is located at the top of the mast. This unit houses the machines and the motor that enables the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of machinery which allows the mast to grow. The top climber is situated just below the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams in the top climber allow the slewing unit to be detached from the mast by raising it higher.

The term "boom", refers to the tower crane's working arm. The boom is made up of separate steel sections that are attached together, extending out from the top of the slewing unit and parallel to the ground. There is a trolley attached to the underside that could run the length of the boom. This particular trolley holds the hoisting device.
